When it comes in handy
Preview a classic model
OBJ is a long-standing, widely exchanged format, open one to check its geometry quickly.
Inspect before importing
Look over an OBJ’s shape and density before bringing it into heavier software.
Capture a reference
Frame the model and save a PNG to use as a reference image.
Opens locally & 100% in your browser
Your model is read and rendered right here on your device. The file is never uploaded to a server, there is no sign-up and no size limit beyond what your browser can handle, and any screenshot you save is generated locally too.
Frequently asked questions
- What is an OBJ file?
- OBJ is one of the oldest and most widely supported 3D formats. It stores a model’s geometry, vertices, faces and texture coordinates, as plain text, and is exported by almost every 3D tool, which makes it a common choice for exchanging models between programs.
- Will my OBJ’s colours and textures show?
- OBJ stores materials in a separate .mtl file and textures in further image files, which a single-file drop does not include, so the model is shown in a neutral shaded material here. The geometry, scale and triangle count are all accurate, this viewer focuses on inspecting the mesh itself.
- How do I move the camera around?
- Drag with the left mouse button to orbit around the model, scroll (or pinch) to zoom in and out, and drag with the right mouse button to pan. The Reset button reframes the model if you lose it, and Spin rotates it for you.
- Is my model uploaded anywhere?
- No. The file is opened and rendered entirely in your browser, on your own device. It is never sent to a server, so even large or confidential models stay private. There is no sign-up and no queue.
